Photo Finish at the RSC Merlin Open

After heavy rainfall in the morning, conditions improved for an almost perfect Tideway race for more than 20 Merlins. A long Spinnaker run downriver to Battersea Power Station was followed by a demanding beat back to Putney. The lead changes at least 15 times during the race and much depended on catching the right shifts on the way back. After more than 2 hours racing Fran Gifford won with less than a quarter boatlength in a true photo finish.

Winter sun for the RNLI Trophy race

For the first trophy race of the year, 10 boats went out for three short laps in light winds and beautiful winter sunlight. As the sun set the wind disappeared and only Henri, Chris and Una made it to the last turning mark and finished the race before the outgoing tide became too strong.
