- Where is RSC and how to get there?
- RSC is located on the Putney Embankment. We sail on the River Thames. The nearest tube station is Putney Bridge, and the nearest train station is Putney.
- How do you pronounce Ranelagh?
- “Ran-a-ler”.
- Is there an Open Day?
- This year (2021) the RSC Open Day is Sunday May 23 from 10AM-1 PM. Please come along, meet the members, and have a sail.
- How often can I race?
- RSC holds club races on Saturday and Sunday every weekend, subject to river closures, tides, and weather conditions. During the summer there is also a midweek evening series. Check the RSC website for start times which vary according to the tide.
- Currently RSC has c. 100 races scheduled for 2022.
- All races are supported by one or more safety boats.
- RSC prides itself on being a competitive sailing club. Some members travel to other Clubs to compete in races.
- Do we hold Open meetings?
- Yes – we hold two Merlin Rocket open meetings each year, one of which is down river under the bridges towards central London. We also host a Solo Open .
- Are races handicapped?
- Yes – we time all races and adjust based on RYA Portsmouth Yardstick numbers. There is close racing within the fleet.
- How much does it cost to join RSC?
- Annual membership fees are – Single £90, Family £100, or Student £25 – payable 1st January. Fees are reduced by 50% if you join after 1st July.
- Is RSC family friendly?
- Family memberships are our largest membership category. Family members are active sailors or crew, and join in our various social events.
- Do I need my own boat?
- Club Lasers, Laser 2000, Solos, and Merlins are available for hire for GBP 5 per person. All Club boats are insured.
- Do I need my own kit?
- While some kit is available in the club, it is advised that you bring your own kit. Everyone must wear a buoyancy aid. The rest of the kit is weather dependent.
- If I am inexperienced, can I sail at RSC?
- Sailing on the tidal Thames in a dinghy, particularly a Laser or Solo, requires some degree of skill. Beginners often start out crewing.
- Can I bring my own boat?
- Our boathouse is covered, so a great place for wooden boats.
- Storage fees for boats are £140 plus £12 for a trailer. All boats are stored inside our boathouse.
- Is RSC also a social Club?

- RSC has an active social program with an open bar after Club races, a monthly Club night, Christmas party and other events where friendships are made.
